Duiken in de Andaman Sea in Thailand met Mike Newman

Mijn grote vriend Mike Newman uit Thailand heeft een hobby en wat voor een hobby!! Hij gaat heel graag duiken,

Andaman Diving - March 2013

Another Andaman Sea dive trip with the wonderful vessel, MV White Manta.

First stop is Phuket to wait for transport to the boat.

I like to stay in Patong at the Tropica Bungalow hotel. It's right on the beach and just around the corner from amazing Bangla road.

But Tropica is an oasis of calm in the madness that Patong has become. It's an older hotel, but has been kept up well.

The garden and pool are very pleasant.

The entrance drive is walled with ancient style fired bricks. At the end, to the right, is the ocean.

Yes, Phuket has a brew pub: Full Moon Brew Work. This is their dark ale with a spicy Thai beef salad. The pub is located in the Jung Ceylon shopping center in Patong.

This is a Dorid Nudibranch, probably a Chromodoris (Richelieu Rock)

The White Manta is a great dive boat. the cabins are spacious and well laid out.

Speciaal voor mijn goede vriend Mike

Mijn goede vriend Mike in het mooie Thailand zal zeer zeker enthousiast zijn over de klompen fiets ''The Wooden-shoe Bike''

Hij is regelmatig in het groningse verkeer te zien.

We gaan naar Roi-Et in Thailand

Vriend Mike met zijn vrouw in Thailand maakten weer een prachtig uitstapje naar een wonderschoon gebied in hun land.

Natuurlijk maakte Mike weer foto's en voorzag ze van commentaar.
Ik plaats ze dan daarna weer op mijn weblog.

Nieuwe mee eter in huis

Gisteravond hebben we in het friese Hornsterzwaag onze nieuwe huisgenoot opgehaald.
Hij heet Mike (ja, inderdaad daar is hij naar vernoemd!!!), is 1 juni 2010 geboren, verkeerd in blakende gezondheid en heeft het net als wij zeer naar de zin in Groningen.
Mike is een engelse Cocker Spaniel.
Kijk maar even mee.

My dear friend Mike from Thailand wrote me in a mail the following......

We had a few days off so we took a short road trip to Chanthaburi, which is about 4 hours drive south of our town Korat.
We had a great time. Lots of wonderful seafood and many kinds of fruits. Not many people vacation in this place, so the beaches are very uncrowded. It's out first time to stop there, although we've driven through many times. We'll go back!

Road Trip To Laos

Mijn grote vriend Mike(the man from the other side!)in Thailand maakte tussen Kerst en Nieuwjaar een ''Roadtrip To Laos'' met zijn vrouw. De foto's die hij daar maakte mogen jullie ook bekijken.
Het is een heel mooie ervaring om een gebied te zien, dat heel erg van de onze verschilt. Kijk maar even mee naar wilde orchideen, autentieke gebouwen, beelden de Mekong rivier, voedsel en vergezichten met watervallen!!
Jullie kunnen de foto's een voor een bekijken of in een dia/slide show.

Jullie eventuele commentaren zal ik natuurlijk aan Mike doorsturen!!!

Thaise Kalender

Als kerst/nieuwjaars kado kreeg ik ditmaal van mijn vriend Mike uit Thailand een mooie kalender.
We sturen elkaar elk jaar een kleinigheidje!!
Hij kreeg van mij ditmaal een paar ''delfsblauw bedrukte'' pannenlappen. Hij mag graag zelf brood bakken, dus hahah, ook nog een kaart van Noord Nederland zodat hij precies kan uitvlooien waar we naar toe gaan op onze tripjes.
Ik zal iedere twee maanden een fraaie foto's van de kalender laten zien.

Jungle Walk in Thailand

Van de week kreeg ik van mijn vriend Mike in Thailand enige foto's toegestuurd die ik jullie niet wil onthouden. Hij maakte met een vriend een wandeling door de jungle en bezocht een Muay Thai (thai boxingsportschool).
Hij schreef het volgende:

If you look carefully you can see some ants, an elephant trail and
even some elephant dung. The construction at the end is going to be a
Muay Thai (Thai boxing) school.

My friend Mike in Thailand installed a webcam in his garden, so we can see the orchids and all the other great plants and flowers in the local heat!!

Mijn vriend Mike in Thailand installeerde een webcam in zijn tuin, we kunnen dus nu alle in de wind wuivende orchideen en andere planten en bloemen in de Thaise hitte zien. Kijk gerust een keertje want dat zou hij erg leuk vinden vertelde hij me.
Het tijdsverschil tussen Nederland en Thailand is 5 uur, dus 5 uur 's morgens in Nederland in 10 uur in de morgen in Thailand!!

Road trip to..........Laos

My friend from the other side told me some weeks ago about his next holiday.
His wife planned a road trip of a week through their neighbour country Laos. Mike was the driver and his wife Pat ''the perfect-co-pilot and navigator''. They were in South Central Laos including the Mahaxai caves, Kong Lor Cave, Savannakhet, Tha Khek and Vientiane. And today he told me they were back and of course he sent a lot of awesome ''Laos pics'' of the ''adventure-week''.Perhaps you like to see also something of the ''Laos-mission'' Enjoy the great pics.

The man from the other side

This last message on my web log for 2008 is a little note dedicated to my dear friend Mike.
5 years and 6 months ago, on the first of June 2003 I was browsing through some webcamsites to take a look at places as far away as possible. I found a homecam on the isle of Saipan, in the Pacific Ocean. I thought that was about the farthest place I could find, on the so called “other side”.
I saw orchids in a garden and a tropical pond. The webcam owner had a reaction form on his site, so I decided to leave a little message. Here’s what I posted:

The answer came in a few minutes:
Hi Henk, Thanks for writing and thanks for your kind words. If you ever get to Saipan we'll have a beer on the porch. Mike.
We continued talking because we both had lots of questions and stories to share.
Over the last 5,5 years a lot has happened. Mike lives in Korat, Thailand now, with his wife Pat. We mailed each other about 800 times each and when we take special pictures we show them to each other. Our annual snail-mail Christmas gifts have become a good habit.
In the mean time we became 5,5 years older. Mike is retired. I’m not, unfortunately. But we’ve both gotten wiser, that’s for sure.
Mike, despite of the fact that it is sometimes hard for me to say the things I’d like to say, in a language that’s not my native language, I’d like to tell you that I really hope that we’ll continue writing. I think we’ve snet that many messages because of the fact that we like this way of communication very much. Have a very good time in Bangkok next week and tell me about it in the New Year.
