Cursus Thais

Een van de kennissen op mijn Flickr fotosite vroeg me nadat ze gelezen had op mijn weblog over ''the man from the other side'', hoe mijn naam er in het Thais uit zou zien. Natuurlijk wordt zij op haar wenken bediend omdat ik het zelf eigenlijk ook wel wilde weten. Ik vroeg mijn Thaise vriend, de naam Henk eens te vertalen. Ik ontving het volgende antwoord; Lees allemaal maar even mee:

Henk เฮงค์

The first character "เ" is the vowel which makes the "e" sound.
Oddly, it comes first even though it is not pronounced first.

The second character "ฮ" is the "h" sound.

"ง" is the "ng" sound.

"ค์" is the "k" sound. The little character on top says "don't
pronounce this". This is because the Thais don't put the "k" sound at
the end of words. So, even though it should be part of your name, the
Thais won't pronounce it.

You name will come out something like "Heng".
